Americans are genuinely generous in general.  It is a known fact that up to 70% of Americans donate to charitable organizations in any given year.  Employed Americans statistically donate upward of 3% of their income to worthwhile causes through charitable organizations and charity foundations.  In 2006 charitable organizations received $1 trillion in revenue, a 5.7% increase over the previous year giving.

Americans are dedicated to give to charitable foundations

Giving to Charitable Foundations

Private giving of charity foundations, individuals and corporations equaled $295 billion in 2006.  Amazingly, $222.9 billion of that total was donated by private individuals – common folk like US.  In 2007 donations to charitable organizations exceeded the $300 billion mark totaling $306 billion.  Again, individuals – American individuals carried 78.4% of that charity bill.

Americans Volunteering and Giving Their Time to

Charity Foundations

Americans are not only giving financially but they are also busy being giving of themselves in donating their valuable time, an asset that cannot be repurchased.  61.2 million people at least claim to have volunteered in 2005.  Approximately 12.9 billion man hours were volunteered in 2006.  This is the equivalent of 7.6 million people volunteering full time!  The estimated wage value of this collective volunteer effort is $215.6 billion.  This figure constitutes 43.3% of the total non-profit employee gross wages paid in 2006.  What this means from an economics standpoint is that nearly one third of the total work accomplished by Americans in 2006 via charitable organizations and charitable foundations was done so on a voluntary basis.

So what do these staggering statistics add up to, you ask?  Well Music 4 Hunger Charity Foundation is inclined to believe and logistically support the belief that Americans are genuinely generous in general.
